A gambling problem or gambling addiction manifests itself in different ways. Everybody is different. 
However, there are some general points that may indicate gambling problems.

Observe
You notice that your loved one's behavior has changed. 
Recognize
You become aware that your loved one is not behaving normally. In general, or specifically for your loved one. 
Interpret
Consider whether this behavior may be related to a possible gambling problem
Tests
Discuss your observations with a friend, family member or colleague. Do they also experience the same as you?
Conversation
Start a conversation with your loved one. What does your loved one think? Is that in line with what you think?
Analyze
Is there a problem? And for who is that a problem?

Continue on talking with your loved one, reassure them and explore the options together.
